Tribes of Midgard Explained: Game Modes
Intro: What exactly is Tribes of Midgard?
Tribes of Midgard is a roguelike based on Norse Mythology. It reminds me of Valheim, but you’re looking top down on your character. Instead of building up a character long term like in Valheim, you’ll be resetting the world. This means you’ll lose all of your gear, but you’ll be rewarded if you make it out of the world alive. because of this, it has tons of replay potential for both solo players and parties alike.
Game Modes: Saga and Survival
Saga Mode
The game features two modes, Saga and Survival. In Saga mode, you and 9 others will take on the ancients (end game bosses) while protecting your village and the Seed of Yggdrasil from the creatures that spawn during the night.
Each day gets shorter until day 14, which is when the night time is permanent. Yes, you heard me. It's called Fimbulwinter and it's as scary as you think it is.
You'll need to complete quests, protect the town from the giant Jötunn, and gear up to take on the likes of Fenrir, Jörmungandr, and Surtr. I know, it's a lot. But you wont be doing all this in one run.
When you end the run by taking the Bifrost back to Valhalla you will be rewarded with Golden Horns. But it is a roguelike game, so you won't be taking any of your gear with you.
Instead you use the Golden Horns to buy starter kits, weapon and armor recipes, and unlock runes that can be found in the game.
Eventually you'll be able to beat the game before Fimbulwinter. Hopefully.
Oh also, if the Seed of Yggdrasil is destroyed, so are all of your Golden Horns. So make sure to take the Bifrost back before that happens.
